The main differences between the SABT and other registries like the AKC for instance,
are:
-
The SABT is strictly about the Boerboel breed -- the SABT is about bettering
and ennobling the Boerboel.
-
The SABT has a very unique appraisal system. Click here
for an introduction to the appraisal system. This appraisal system weeds out Boerboels that should not
be bred. The SABT's appraisal system is a means to improve the breed -- dogs not making the
required minimum score do not get registered. And at the same time the owners learn more about
their own dogs and the Boerboel.
-
The SABT is not a registry only. Registries basically track pedigrees and
arrange dog shows. The SABT tracks pedigrees but also launches many research
efforts regarding the Boerboel, monitors the development of the Boerboel and
adjust it's quality control system as needed.
-
Those that lead the SABT (the SABT board and senior appraisers), collectively
bring over a 1,000 years of Boerboel knowledge to the table. No generic/all
purpose registry has anywhere near such in-depth expertise on a single breed.
-
The SABT board and all appraisers are volunteers giving up their own personal
or vacation time to lead the association, appraise the dogs and teach fellow
members about the Boerboel. The non-senior appraisers don't get their
travel expenses reimbursed. These are all testaments of the commitment level
of these individuals.
-
The SABT is an international organization ensuring the standardization of the
Boerboel across the world.
-
The SABT provides intense breeders/appraisers courses to the Boerboel public. These
educational classes are accompanied by 250 page Boerboel book covering topics such
as the breed standard, appraising Boerboels, the history of the Boerboel, parasites,
nutrition, breeding stock selection and more.
-
The SABT with their appraisal system and breeders courses are an unmatched Boerboel
educational institution.
-
Some people not even owning a Boerboel join just to get the SABT periodic newsletter.
The SABT is a breeders association -- a group of Boerboel breeders and enthusiastic
Boerboel owners that believe in the appraisal system and collectively work towards
similar goals of improving the Boerboel.
Because the SABT breeders are quality driven, you will also find that a number of the
SABT breeders will do what they possibly can to ensure they produce healthy pups.
Look at for instance how many of them go through the trouble of weeding out Boerboels
that do not have hips good enough to be put back in the gene pool.
Because of the SABT's quality control process, you have the assurance of SABT
senior appraisers that the mother and father of the puppy had been appraised on 72
different characteristics and they have been found to be of breed quality. There is no
second guessing or any issue with a breeder applying what they as individuals think
is the make-up of a good Boerboel.
SABT registered Boerboels are not only pure Boerboels, they are pure Boerboels whose
parents have had to make the grade. That is what makes this registry unique.
